Russia is draining the Kakhov reservoir, endangering the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, NPR reports. The Russians are actively discharging water from the Kakhovsky Reservoir, for this the occupiers opened the floodgates at the Kakhovsky HPP.

According to satellite data obtained by NPR, Russia is likely draining one of Ukraine’s largest reservoirs. With such actions, the Russian Federation may endanger the availability of drinking water, agricultural production and safety at the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.

Late last week, the International Atomic Energy Agency said it was aware of the potential risk associated with falling water levels in the reservoir.

If the water level continues to fall, the nuclear reactors of the ZNPP will not be able to receive water for cooling.
