The Russian attack on the Kakhovskaya HPP cost Ukraine $2 billion: the first damage assessment

The amount of direct losses caused by the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP is at least $2 billion. This is evidenced by the first analysis carried out by specialists of the Kyiv School of Economics together with the Office of the President, the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Infrastructure. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economy.

According to the analysis of the Kyiv School of Economics, damages due to the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP include:

housing: $950 million in damages (from 20,000 to 30,000 houses in the Kherson region and more than 500 private houses in the Mykolaiv region fell into the flooding zone);

energy: $624 million in losses (the main losses are from the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, which cannot be restored, the needs for the construction of a new hydroelectric power plant will amount to about $1 billion);

transport infrastructure: $311 million in damages (more than 290 km of roads were affected by the flood);

industry: $105 million in damages (28 large industrial facilities located on the right and left banks of the Dnieper were flooded);

agriculture: $25 million in losses (the affected regions are on the front line and are not actively used, but the amount of indirect losses due to the loss of irrigation of the region could be much higher).

In addition, the estimated amount of environmental damage is estimated at $1.5 billion.
