The Russian occupiers committed the most sexual crimes in the Kherson region: the victims were from 4 to 83 years old

In the Kherson region, the Russian military committed the largest number of crimes of a sexual nature.

This was announced on September 30 by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Dmytro Lubinets.

According to him, Russia uses sexual violence as a tactic of war, a weapon and a tool to humiliate and suppress the Ukrainian people. The Ombudsman noted that this is the most silenced and least condemned crime.

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine recorded 235 cases of sexual violence. The age of the victims is from 4 to 82 years old.

“Despite all efforts, this crime is still shrouded in stigma and the reluctance of victims to report their experiences, so the numbers are actually much higher. The largest number of cases of sexual violence related to the conflict was recorded in the Kherson region – 72 cases are known,” the ombudsman noted. .

At the same time, on September 25, during its report to the Human Rights Council in Geneva, the UN Commission for the Investigation of War Crimes noted that Russian soldiers raped and sexually assaulted women aged 19 to 83 in the Kherson region. Often, members of the same family were kept in the next room, so they were forced to listen to the violence, the commission members said.

The report also notes that Russia denies committing crimes against the civilian population in Ukraine. The commission’s attempts to contact Russia went unanswered. Also, not a single representative of Moscow appeared to answer the accusations at the UN Human Rights Council hearings on this issue.
