According to the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Taras Kremen, the Russians continue to massively destroy the Ukrainian language in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

In an interview, he named six manifestations of linguicide:

  • occupation administrations use only the Russian language to inform citizens;
  • compulsion to use the Russian language;
  • the Russian language as the language of information for general familiarization and advertising, announcements, signs;
  • termination of mass media activities, a
  • also Internet resources;
  • displacement of the Ukrainian language as the language of the educational process;
  • restriction of access, prohibition of distribution and destruction of literature and printed products in the Ukrainian language, especially those printed after 1991.

Kremin emphasized that since 2014, the Ukrainian language has been pushed out of the main spheres of public life in the temporarily occupied territories. This concerned the names of settlements, the activities of educational institutions, culture, television, radio broadcasting, and the activities of occupation self-government bodies.

The facts of the destruction of the Ukrainian language in the occupied Luhansk region
