What does the Kherson College of the Fishery Industry look like after the Russian shelling
Two years ago, the Kherson Maritime College of the Fishery Industry, which is located in the Korabelny district of Kherson, accepted students, but today its doors are closed, and the windows are boarded up with OSB plates.
The college building has repeatedly suffered from Russian shelling, as have residential buildings located nearby.
In the photo, you can see broken windows and doors, as well as a damaged signboard of the establishment.
In addition, in the five-story building on Gretska Street, next to the educational institution, there are almost no windows left, and traces of fragments of Russian shells are visible on the building itself.
The Kherson College of Fishery Industry was founded as a marine fisheries technical school in 1932 in the city of Kyiv. In the same year, the technical school was transferred to the city of Kherson.
In August 1941, the technical school was evacuated to Dagestan (the city of Makhachkala). A significant number of technical school students were sent to the front, and those who remained during extracurricular hours engaged in fishing in the Caspian Sea, worked in organizations and enterprises that produced products for the front, worked in hospitals, and built defense facilities.
After the liberation of Kherson, the technical school resumed its activities in May 1944.
The modern college cooperates with other higher educational institutions of the fishing industry of Ukraine.
During the Russian occupation of Kherson in February 2022, the college was relocated to the city of Izmail, Odesa region.
For the first time, the building of the College of Fishery Industry was shelled in January 2023. At that time, a Russian projectile hit windows and damaged the roof of the educational institution.
In April 2023, the Security Service of Ukraine reported the suspicion to Oleksandr Katunin, the “director” of the Kherson Maritime College of the Fishery Industry.
It is known that Katunin took over the premises and training center of the college, forbade Ukrainian employees to visit their workplaces and took measures to develop a new Charter.
