Due to Russian shelling, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is completely de-energized

As a result, of a night missile attack in Ukraine on March 9, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was completely de-energized. Russian shelling led to the disconnection of the last line of communication between the nuclear power plant and the Ukrainian power system.

The power plant is de-energized and has gone into blackout mode for the sixth time during the stay of Russian troops on its territory. As a result of a massive missile attack, the 5th and 6th power units are put into a cold state. This was reported in “Energoatom”.

The department also noted that after that, 18 diesel generators were switched on to power the ZNPP’s own needs. Fuel for their work remains for 10 days.

“If it is impossible to renew the external power supply of the station during this time, an accident with radiation consequences for the whole world may occur,” warned Energoatom.

Energoatom called on the international community to urgently take measures to withdraw the Russian military from the territory of the Zaporizhzhіa NPP and transfer the plant under the full control of a competent, legitimate operator.

The Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko noted that the Russians are putting the world on the brink of a nuclear disaster. Weed emphasized that this happened the day after negotiations with the UN regarding the demilitarization of the ZNPP.

“Another massive attack on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine. As a result of the shelling, the last line that fed the ZNPP was damaged. Now the plant is running on diesel generators,” the minister wrote.
