The Russians condemned 8 Ukrainian marines for the “shelling of Mariupol”

The Russians sentenced Ukrainian military prisoners to imprisonment for 15 to 17 years. They will be held in a high-security prison.

The Supreme Court of the so-called “Donetsk People’s Republic” sentenced eight soldiers of the 36th separate marine brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Russians accused them of shelling a gas distribution and pumping station in Mariupol in the spring of 2022. The announcement appeared on November 11 on the website of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

Russian investigators allegedly established that in the period from March to April 2022, the soldiers of the armed forces convicted by them, while in Mariupol, fired mortars at gas distribution and pumping stations and thus damaged critical life support facilities and caused significant material losses.

The Russians accused the Ukrainian prisoners of war of “brutal treatment of the civilian population, use of prohibited means and methods in the armed conflict, and intentional damage to other people’s property in a generally dangerous manner.”

The Russians claim that the captured Ukrainian servicemen admitted their guilt.

It is noted that the prisoners will be kept in a penal colony of strict regime. The Ukrainian marines were sentenced to imprisonment for 15 to 17 years. The Russians also published the names of the convicted servicemen in a press release.
