Another crime against Ukrainian history and culture was committed by the Russians in the temporarily occupied Mariupol. This time, five unique wall images were destroyed at once, the Mariupol City Council reports.
The assembly hall of school No. 7 was decorated with a composition of five sgraffitos (the technique of creating wall images) by Serhii Barannik and Ahmet Fathi. Their uniqueness was that avant-garde artists rarely created monumental works of art, and this composition was one of the examples.
The Russians made “renovations” in the room, which now has just bare walls.
According to the city council, during the occupation, the Russians destroyed dozens of mosaic panels in the city. Among them, the works of Alla Gorska, Lelya Kuzmenkov, Valentina Konstantinov, Ernst Kotkov, Valery Lamakh and Ivan Lytovchenko.
