The Russians created an emergency situation at the ZNPP, radioactive water is poured into the cooling pond

Rosatom representatives created an emergency situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP. Probably due to the negligence and unprofessional actions of the Russians at the facility, the cleaning system of the purge water of the steam generators of power unit No. 6 recently completely failed. In an attempt to correct the situation, the occupiers allowed radioactive water to enter the external environment.

While Rosatom’s representatives at the ZNPP continue to grossly violate the plant’s radiation and nuclear safety and do not comply with the technological regulations and emergency instructions, the IAEA inspectors at the facility do not react in any way. This was stated by energy market expert and former deputy director of “Ukrenergo” Victor Kurtev, involved in the anti-crisis plan for the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

The Russians are pouring radioactive water into a pond at the ZNPP

“According to the information available to me, the cleaning system of the purge water of the steam generators of power unit No. 6 recently completely failed – the installation of special water treatment -5. The probable cause is the carelessness and unprofessional actions of the Russian “shift manager” of the chemical shop, who missed the moment of saturation of the special water treatment filters-5/2. This caused radioactive borated water to enter the engine room of power unit No. 6,” said V. Kurtev.

According to him, when the liquid entered the condensate-feeding tract, the boric acid solution present in it entered into a chemical interaction with the metal of the pipelines and the equipment of the second circuit, made of unalloyed steel.

“In order to correct the situation, they are now trying to wash the coolant of the second circuit through water exchange. That is, radioactive borated water is diluted with chemically purified water. The mixture is drained into the drain circulation pipe and the cooling pond. This violates all the sanitary norms and rules established for the operation of nuclear power plants, because the radioactive coolant enters the external environment,” V. Kurtev outlined the situation.

At the same time, at the request of Moscow, the Russian “experts” who control the occupied Ukrainian nuclear power plant refuse to transfer power unit No. 6 to a state of cold shutdown, and power unit No. 4 to a hot state. This means, as the expert explains, that Russia seems to have no intention of giving up blackmailing Ukraine and the world with a nuclear catastrophe.

“Russia’s reaction in the form of inaction gives grounds to talk about creating a basis for blackmailing Ukraine and the world with a future nuclear catastrophe. Therefore, this confirms the opinion that in the state concern “Rosatom” it was decided to use power unit No. 6, where there is leakage from the first circuit to the second, for the implementation of a chain scenario of violation of all safety barriers, which involves supercooling and damage to the reactor, as well as guillotine destruction of the tubes of steam generators, which will cause the maximum “domino” effect, V. Kurtev predicts.

At the same time, the expert is convinced, the Russians will try to achieve the maximum informational effect in order to restrain the actions of the Ukrainian army in the southern direction, appealing to the IAEA regarding the “threat of a nuclear catastrophe”. Similar arguments will be used to explain the presence of Russian “experts” and their curators – supposedly to eliminate a possible disaster.

“Despite the flagrant safety violations, in particular the loss of the integrity of the first and second circuits and the release of the radioactive carrier into the external environment, gross violations of the radiation and nuclear safety of the ZNPP continue. Technological regulations and emergency instructions are not followed. Information about the real state of affairs is not provided to the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspection of Ukraine, to Energoatom, or to the IAEA,” stated V. Kurtev.

The IAEA inspectors who are at the ZNPP ignore the threats, the expert says.

“It is surprising that there is no reaction to such actions of IAEA inspectors, who seem to be “fascinated” by the Russians and do not see and do not understand the scale of the violations. Instead, they fish in the cooler pond (into which, in fact, radioactive water flows) in the company of Yuriy Chernychuk, a collaborator whom the Russian authorities appointed as the “general director of the Zaporizhzhіa NPP”. That is, IAEA inspectors are literally used as an informational “smoke screen” to hide violations and create an “alibi” for the Russians, V. Kurtev noted.

The expert called on the international community to take measures to prevent a catastrophe.
