In the village of Yunakivka, Sumy Region, the Church of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin – a monument of national importance and one of the most famous architectural structures in the region – came under Russian fire.
This was reported on the website of the Religious Information Service of Ukraine.
“The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, built in 1806, is an example of early classicism and a true decoration of the Sumy region. It is this temple that is depicted on the coat of arms of the Sumy region as a symbol of the historical heritage and spiritual depth of the region. Previously, the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin was the center of the spiritual life of Yunakivka. On behalf of the Sumy Diocese, we express our sincere condolences to the Orthodox community of the village and call for prayers for peace and the preservation of our sanctuaries,” the description reads.
