The Russians destroyed more than 100 houses in Yarova in the Liman Region, less than half of the population is now in the liberated village

Two hundred and fifty people returned to the village of Yarova of the Lyman community after liberation from the Russian occupation.

Local residents are rebuilding the houses destroyed by the Russians on their own, more than a hundred of them in Yarovya. The settlement was under occupation for about 4 months, until September 2022, when the Defense Forces liberated the settlement.

In the village, the infrastructure is broken, the only school and kindergarten were destroyed.

According to locals, there has been no electricity in the village for more than a year, there is no gas, water is in wells, and there is not enough store in the center of Yarova.

According to the village headman Dmytro Dremlyuzhenka, during the occupation, about 600 residents remained in the village, now 250 have returned to their homes. Now Yarovya has 880 inhabitants, before the full-scale invasion there were 2,800.

There are currently 89 children in the village, for whom the educational center works, because the Russians shot the school with a tank. There is also an outpatient clinic, where doctors from international charitable organizations come several times a week.

“Work is very difficult. There was an economy, who kept at home, people worked on the railway. Nearby is Sviatohirsk, where people worked at recreation centers. We had a nice enough village. People lived, let’s say, not poor,” says the old man.

Due to the presence of Yarova in the zone of active hostilities, it is not possible to rebuild critical infrastructure. “There will be reconstruction, people will start to return,” said Dremlyuzhenko.
