In Kharkiv, a television tower and television equipment were completely destroyed by a rocket attack
The Russian army, in the third year of a full-scale invasion, finally destroyed the 265-meter TV tower in Kharkiv.
The rocket strike on April 22 at 4:36 p.m. broke the steel structure in half and seemed louder to the city’s residents than other rocket “arrivals”.
This is explained by the fact that about 300 kg of explosives of the Kh-59 rocket, which hit the structure, exploded at a height of more than 100 meters, so the sound wave did not go into the ground, as usual, but spread over the city.
As a result of the shelling, the highest TV tower in the region, built in 1981, broke almost in half and fell down with all the equipment. As a result of the fall, most of the television and communication equipment was destroyed or damaged. In Kharkiv and the approximately 40-kilometer suburbs, the digital television signal completely disappeared.
At the same time, radio broadcasting was not affected by the destruction of the TV tower.
In addition to the TV tower itself, the building where the service staff worked was largely damaged. At this time, none of the engineers predicts when it will be possible to at least partially restore the operation of the telecommunications equipment.
People were not injured, at the time of the shelling, all employees of the TV tower were in shelter. A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the fact of violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
