In captivity, the Russians executed 61 Ukrainian servicemen, and more than 2,200 were recognized as victims.
This was announced by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin.
27 criminal proceedings have been opened in the case of the execution of 61 prisoners of war from Ukraine. Law enforcement officers reported the suspicion to 4 Russian military personnel. The cases of 2 persons have already been referred to the court.
“More than 2,200 Ukrainian defenders have been recognized as victims in the proceedings regarding their stay in captivity. More than 500 of them testified about the use of physical violence against them during Russian interrogations, including torture with electric current,” the report says.
Investigators have established that at least 25 torture chambers have been set up in 15 regions of Russia.
At present, the investigation of the cases on the identification of persons involved in the murders and torture of prisoners is ongoing.
