The Russians hit New York in Donetsk region, there are wounded: people may remain under the rubble

On January 15, Russian troops again shelled the village of New York in the Donetsk region. The invaders dropped two guided aerial bombs on the settlement, and also aimed a rocket at a three-story residential building.

As a result of the Russian attack, the entrance collapsed, three civilians were injured, and five more people were buried under the rubble. This was reported by the head of the Donetsk regional military administration, Vadym Filashkin: “Representatives of the authorities, rescuers and the police are working on the spot – they are solving the issue of clearing the rubble. This is another cynical attack by the Russians on the civilian population. Its exact consequences will be known later.”

The Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office reported that a 62-year-old woman, who was outside at the time of the attack, received shrapnel injuries due to Russian shelling in New York.

Also, men aged 66 and 68 were injured. One of them was hit by fragments of an enemy projectile in his own home, and the other tried to survive the shelling in the basement. All victims were hospitalized.

The prosecutor’s office added that the final number of victims is currently being ascertained, and law enforcement officers are establishing the type of weapons that the Russians used against civilians this time.

“Prosecutors continue to take all possible and appropriate measures to record war crimes committed by the Russian Federation against the civilian population of the region. Under the procedural leadership of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a pre-trial investigation has been initiated in criminal proceedings for violation of the laws and customs of war,” the message said.

On the morning of January 16, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported that three injured people are currently known. Five more people are probably trapped under the rubble. 6 three-story buildings and 5 private houses were destroyed.

In addition, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, during January 15, the Russians opened fire on the civilian population of the region 25 times. In particular, Russia carried out 17 airstrikes on 6 settlements: Avdiivtsi, Krasnohorivtsi, Kurakhovo, the village of New York, the villages of Predtechine and Ptyche.
