A large oil depot was built 50 kilometers from the city.
The Russians have built an oil depot to meet the needs of their army in the village of Sedove in the Donetsk region, which has been occupied since 2014, on the coast of the Sea of Azov, and are also trying to establish the supply of oil through the port of captured Mariupol, reports the Center for Journalistic Investigations.
The village of Sedove is located 50 kilometers east of Mariupol and was traditionally a resort. However, since 2022, Sedove is one of the most closed settlements on the coast of the Sea of Azov, as it became a base for the Russian army of occupation. In particular, a military training ground is located 10 kilometers away, which the Russians recently “deconserved”.
At the same time, in Sedovo itself, literally on the shore of the Sea of Azov, a storage of oil products was built, as indicated by satellite images. Construction of the oil depot began in September 2023, and was completed approximately in February 2024, and nine tanks were built there.
As Petro Andryushchenko, adviser to the chairman of Mariupol, said, they decided to build the oil depot in this place, probably because there is a filling station nearby, which belonged to the company “Azovnaftoprodukt” during Yanukovych’s time. It is not known for certain whether the oil pipeline is working now. Another reason may be the hidden location of the object against the background of Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil depots.
At the same time, the construction of an oil depot is not the only step to provide the Russian army with fuel. Thus, on June 14, 2024, for the first time during the occupation, an oil tanker was spotted at one of the berths of the port of Mariupol.
Visually, its carrying capacity is up to one thousand tons, but this fuel is enough for two or three days of frontline support.
Subsequently, the ship was fixed several more times in the port of Mariupol, the last time on June 25.
According to Petro Andryushchenko, the Russians are dispersing fuel storage sites in this way, or are preparing conditions for refueling ships that are carriers of Caliber missiles and are hiding on a raid in the Sea of Azov.
The village of Granitne near Mariupol became the main logistical artery of the Russians, who began the construction of new fortifications by the Russians along the section of the road where the highway from the village of Granitne connects to the highway.
