The Russians stole from the Kherson regional art museum named after O. Shevkunenko’s painting by Sigismund Olesevich “Sketch of a costume”.
This was reported by representatives of the museum.
It is noted that the painting was painted in 1915 with watercolor on paper.
The location of the stolen work “Sketch of a costume” is currently unknown.
It is noted that the painting was in the Kherson Museum before the beginning of the Second World War, as evidenced by the 1935 collection lists. During the Nazi occupation, the work was exported, but later came under repatriation and returned to Kherson.
Sigismund Olesevich is a painter and magazine graphic artist. Representative of the Odessa school of painting in 1914-1919. Lived in Paris for over 55 years, worked there under pseudonyms. But he returned to Odessa, participated in many exhibitions.
In total, more than 10,000 works of Ukrainian, Russian and European artists were stolen from the Kherson Regional Art Museum.
