The United Nations recorded a sharp increase in casualties among the civilian population in Ukraine. In March, at least 604 civilians were killed or wounded as a result of Russian shelling. This is 20% more than last months.
This is reported by the UN Office for Human Rights: “The UN records a sharp increase in casualties among the civilian population in Ukraine. Casualties among the civilian population in Ukraine have increased sharply over the past month.”
At least 57 children are said to have been killed or injured in March 2024. In February, the number of victims was twice as low. The UN attributes this increase to increased attacks by Russia.
The UN human rights monitoring mission said it confirmed at least 604 civilians were killed or injured in Ukraine in March, a 20% increase from the previous month.
“The March increase in civilian casualties was mainly related to attacks by the Russian armed forces with the use of missiles and barrage munitions throughout Ukraine and increased aerial bombardment near the front line,” the Office for Human Rights emphasized.
The majority of victims among the civilian population — 93.5%. Educational and health care institutions in the controlled territories of our country suffered the most damage in the last month in Ukraine.
According to the UN Monitoring Mission, 14,085 civilians died as a result of Russian aggression in Ukraine. These data have been recorded since 2014, when the Russian Federation occupied Crimea and captured parts of the territories of Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
