The war caused billions in damage to the environment of Kyiv and the region

Named the amount of damage caused as a result of shelling and hostilities. The war caused 49 billion 274 million hryvnias of damage to the environment of Kyiv and the Kyiv region in one year and 10 months. This was reported in the State Environmental Inspection of the Capital District.

According to the agency, the atmospheric air suffered the most damage due to the burning of oil depots, commercial warehouses and energy infrastructure facilities. The amount of damages is 46 billion 836 million 486 thousand hryvnias. Land resources of Kyiv and the region were damaged in the amount of 2 billion 54 million 690 thousand hryvnias as a result of littering and pollution due to the destruction caused by the shelling of the Russian occupiers.

“It is important not only to punish Russia for all crimes against the environment committed in Ukraine since 2014, but also to force the Russian Federation to compensate for all the damage caused. Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine has a devastating effect on the environment, the restoration of which will take more than a dozen years,” the State Environmental Inspection of the Capital District emphasized.

Environmentalists added that the damage caused to the territories and objects of the nature reserve fund as a result of military aggression amounted to 382 million 836 thousand hryvnias. Prosecutors established the fact of illegal registration of a number of hydrotechnical structures located along Natalka Park, on the Sobache Girlo Peninsula, on Obolonsky Island, on the sand spit near Lake Almazne, and within the coastal strips of other water bodies in the capital.
