The water level in Mykolaiv is approaching a critical level, the local authorities say

The level of water rise in Mykolaiv due to the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP dam is approaching a critical level.

The water element reached Mykolaiv: the water level has almost reached a critical level. Some city beaches and the territory of the local yacht club were flooded. Flooding is recorded in the lower parts of all districts of the city.

Oleksandr Sienkevych, the chairman of Mykolaiv, informs about the operational situation in the southern city.

He reported that as of 1:00 p.m. on June 8, a water rise of +2 cm was recorded. At 2:00 p.m., there was zero rise. The total rise in the water level in Mykolaiv as a result of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP reached 104 cm. Earlier it was reported that the critical mark was 105 cm.

According to the chairman, flooding is currently observed in the lower parts of all districts of the city.

The water level in Mykolaiv’s water area is approaching a critical level – this means that the water will begin to flood the basements of buildings located near the shore. According to local channels, the beach on the North was also completely flooded.

At the same time, the local authorities monitor the water quality of the Southern Bug River and the Ingulets River due to flooding by Dnipro water. As informed by the head of Mykolaiv regional military administration, Vitaly Kim, there are currently no significant deviations and excesses of the maximum permissible concentration of substances.

On the night of June 6, Russian troops blew up the Kakhovskaya HPP. Massive flooding began in cities and towns downstream of the Dnieper. The Kherson regional military administration announced an urgent evacuation. The man-made disaster also affected the neighboring Mykolaiv region: due to flooding, the Kinburn spit turned into an island.
