The ZNPP went into blackout mode due to shelling by Russian troops

As a result of shelling on the night of May 22 in the morning, the last 750 kV Dniprovsk high-voltage transmission line, from which the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP was supplied with power for its own needs, was disconnected.

This was reported by the press service of “Energoatom”.

“Ever since the beginning of the Russian occupation of the Ukrainian station (March 4, 2022), the ZNPP has been in blackout mode. After the loss of external power, which is vitally necessary to ensure the operation of the pumps cooling of the nuclear material of the power units, all diesel generators of the nuclear power plant are switched on automatically, the fuel supply is enough for ten days. The countdown has begun,” the message reads.

The company emphasized that if it is impossible to renew the external power supply of the station during this time, an accident with radiation consequences for the whole world may occur.

“The continued occupation of the ZNPP by Russia, the rule of illegitimate, untrained management over it, which does not bear any responsibility for the nuclear and radiation safety of the facility, constantly worsens the conditions for maintaining the plant on the verge of a nuclear and radiation accident. Russia’s nuclear terrorism must stop immediately, and the invaders must leave the territory of the station and the satellite city of Energodar,” stressed Energoatom.

In his turn, the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, Mykola Lukashuk, said that due to the blackout of the pumping stations of the Dnipro-Western Donbass Water Canal, “the Synelnikovo City Water Canal is forced to limit the water supply to citizens’ homes.”

Currently, according to which data, there is a partial lack of water supply in the city of Synelnikovo.
