An operation to eliminate the consequences of the Russian drone attack is underway on the territory of the Chernobyl NPP on February 17. The State Agency of Ukraine for the Management of the Exclusion Zone reports on the situation.
According to the agency, three smoldering fires were recorded at the station. Three groups of climbers, four people each, are working to extinguish them and partially open the shelter structures. They made 22 holes, the total area of the opening is approximately 2 m².
Five working lines have been laid at the scene. Rescuers from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine were involved in the elimination of the consequences.
The radiation situation at the industrial site of the Shelter object and on the territory of the Chernobyl NPP remains stable. No release of radioactive products beyond the established limits has been recorded.
The National Police emphasized that smoldering is taking place at the station, not a fire. Therefore, law enforcement officers refute the information distributed on the Internet about the alleged detection of three fire fires on the territory of the Chernobyl NPP. The police assured that the radiation level remains within normal limits, there is no threat to the population.
