Three residents of the Kupyan district of the Kharkiv region who defected to the Russian Federation during the occupation of the Kupyan region will appear before the court. In particular, they kidnapped a 16-year-old boy and tortured him for 16 days.
This was reported in the Prosecutor General’s Office.
As noted, the investigation established that in the summer of 2022, in one of the settlements of the Kupyan district, when a 16-year-old boy was returning home, a car drove up to him, from which three armed defendants dressed in Russian military uniforms got out. They forcibly dragged the boy to the car and took him to the torture chamber, which was set up in the premises of the Kupyan district police department. The victim was kept there for 16 days.
It is reported that the men tortured and abused the teenager: they put a gas mask on his head to block his airways, forced him to squat, push up from the floor. Also, the boy was systematically beaten, almost not fed, and instead of drinking water, he was given technical water.
In addition, the teenager was sent to clear debris caused by the shelling of the Russian armed forces, and was forced to wash the cars of the Russian military.
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, the accused tried to obtain information from a 16-year-old boy about pro-Ukrainian citizens and participants of the Anti-terrorist operation in the east of Ukraine/Joint Forces Operation in the Kupyan region.
It was also established that during the seizure of the community, one of the accused became the so-called “deputy head of the criminal investigation department of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Provisional Civil Administration of the Kharkiv region.” Another accused assumed the pseudo-position of “acting assistant district police inspector of the department of police district inspectors.”
Regarding three men, the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office sent an indictment to the court on the fact of violation of the laws and customs of war due to a previous conspiracy by the group (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Two of them were also charged with collaborative activity (Part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
