On the morning of November 11, Russian troops shelled Kurakhov, Donetsk region. As a result, the Terniv dam of the Kurakhiv reservoir was destroyed.
The water in the Vovcha River has already risen by 1 meter. In the villages located along the course of the river, the rise of water is recorded.
“We know that water is flowing through the villages located near the Terniv dam. We cannot confirm the nature of the damage and the criticality. We cannot inspect the dam due to constant shelling as of now,” said Roman Padun, head of the Kurakhiv city military administration.
According to him, there are data that the water is approaching the settlements of the Velikonovosilkiv community.
“We know in other settlements of the Velikonovosilkiv community that water is flowing there because if the sluices are opened, then we state that the dam is probably damaged,” Padun added. It is noted that the inspection of the destruction site is complicated due to active fighting in the Pokrovsky and Kurakhiv directions.
Depending on the degree of damage to the dam, there is a risk of partial flooding of settlements located downstream of the Vovcha River: these are the villages of Stari Terny, Ulakly, Konstantinopol, Andriivka, Oleksiivka, Bogatyr, Zeleny Kut, Novoukrayinka and a number of settlements in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
