“You can’t poke a bear in the eye”: German politician blames Ukraine for strikes on Russia

Alice Weidel, the leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany party, known for her pro-Russian rhetoric, has criticized Ukraine for long-range strikes on Russian territory. According to her, Ukrainian deep strikes pose a threat to Germany’s security.

The German politician’s statement is quoted by the Clash Report.

“You can’t constantly poke a big bear in the eye with a red-hot iron – as drones do deep in Russia – and then expect nothing to happen. The bear will eventually pounce,” she said.

According to Weidel, the current German government’s policy towards Ukraine poses an “increased risk” to the country’s security.

At the same time, the German politician said that when her Alternative for Germany party is at the helm of power, it will pursue a “policy of balance.”

Alice Weidel heads a political force whose popularity is growing amid disillusionment with the old traditional parties. The Alternative for Germany party has the greatest support in the eastern states of Germany (the former GDR), where it wins first or second places in regional elections.
