
In Crimea, Yunus Suleimanov, a 40-year-old cook from Bakhchisaray, who was detained after searches on February 12, has been arrested and sent to a pretrial detention facility in Simferopol. This was reported by a source familiar with the situation.
Suleimanov is currently being held in Pretrial Detention Facility No. 2, where he celebrated his 40th birthday. Nariman Seytaliev, who was detained on the same day as Suleimanov, is also being held in the same pretrial detention facility.
It is known that the arrested Crimean residents are defendants in various criminal cases. Both Seytaliev and Suleimanov are accused of involvement in the Hizb ut-Tahrir political party, banned in Russia but permitted in most other countries. The men were remanded in custody until April 11th.
On February 12th, Russian security forces searched the homes of Nariman Seytaliev in the village of Glubokiy Yar in the Bakhchisaray district and cook Yunus Suleimanov in Bakhchisaray. Following the searches, which began at 4:00 a.m., both were detained and taken from the home.
The Kyiv District Court of Simferopol, Russia, ordered the men to be remanded in custody. Seytaliev, accused of organizing the activities of the Islamic political party Hizb ut-Tahrir (Part 1, Article 205.5 of the Russian Criminal Code), was remanded in custody until April 11th. He faces up to 20 years in prison.
